To be elected for the position of President of NATD is a tremendous honour and it is a privilege to represent The National and its members.
With over 50 years involvement in dancing it has always been an integral part of my life. I trained with Cynthia Haslam in Derby whilst taking a B.Ed degree in English and History at Nottingham University, then ran several very large dance schools during the past 40 years in the East Midlands.
My absolute passion is teaching whether skips, complicated pirouettes or fellowships and I have enjoyed working with all my students through the years. I am so proud of those who chose to dance professionally and are now successful teachers with their own dance schools. Dancing is such a positive influence at any stage of life.
I was thrilled to be made a Theatrical Examiner in 1989 and then later Senior Examiner for the Ballet Branch.
Working as Quality Assurance Manager initially with Keith Jones, followed by Kevin Page, has been very interesting, varied and challenging. The National is a strong organisation that can operate and expand confidently in the 21st century. We are fortunate to have such support from our patrons, examiners, teachers and students all organised by Lyn Foster and her staff.
With the current optimism, I am confident that NATD has an exciting future in the U.K. and overseas. The challenges of an increasingly regulated society have to be recognised and met.
I am passionate about the promotion of NATD and dance in all forms and will continue to support teachers and promote their businesses to the best of my ability.
