NATD Contemporary in Vietnam

Harita Stavrou and Annette Hufton have recently returned from Ho Chi Minh city where NATD Contemporary work was introduced at the request of the Vietnamese Arts and Education (VMA) in an intensive course over a week.

The work was received with great enthusiasm and resulted in the successful examination of 6 Associate teachers, who will now deliver the syllabus in local schools. The warmth and generous hospitality of our hosts made us very welcome and the students were delightful - Harita is now expert at counting up to 4 in Vietnamese!

Our thanks and congratulations to everyone involved with the project and we hope to build on this course in the future so that the work will expand to other areas. Pictured are Harita and Annette with the students and staff of VMA.

The end of the current 3 year period is December 31st 2017. All U.K.examiners Ballroom and Theatrical MUST complete CPD . Please download a form from the Teachers' area on the website and send or scan to

A confirmation of successful completion of CPD will be sent by e-mail. An optional display certificate is available from Head Office for £5.00. Please contact the office if you would like one.

Teachers are encouraged to participate in the scheme as it is a useful promotion of your skills as a teacher. The certificate can then be renewed every 3 years. Attendance at all NATD meetings and congress count to the 300 points. For other qualifying courses please contact Annette Hufton.

New Year's Honour

The NATD were delighted to see that one of our most distinguished Patrons, Miss Angela Rippon, was awarded a CBE in the New Year's Honours list.

Miss Rippon's award is a true testament to the devotion and commitment she has shown to charitable work and to outstanding contributions to the field of Alzheimer's and dementia. Warmest congratulations to her from the NATD.

The 2017 Frances Dawson Award

Children & Vulnerable Adults

Dear member,

With regards to obligations and responsibilities when having contact with children & vulnerable adults, everyone needs to be fully conversant with current legalisation in that it applies to ALL individuals teaching / coaching children and vulnerable adults.

It is essential that you MUST be in possession of a current Disclosure & Baring Certificate. This replaces the former CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) and ISA (Independent Safeguarding Authority). This not only helps to ensure the protection of children but also offers a degree of protection and accreditation to all members of the dance teaching profession.

Completion of Teachers
Feedback Form

The NATD are committed to improving the service it provides to all the teachers that enter their students for examinations. It is important to our organisation that feedback from the teacher is given after every examination session. This information is then looked at to ensure that our Examiners are providing the correct service to our entering teachers.

The feedback forms have been in existence for some time now, some teachers complete them regularly but some unfortunately do not. With effect from 1st May 2017 the NATD will no longer release results to teachers unless the feedback form has been completed. This can be done manually and returned with your payment or it can be done electronically if your chosen method of payment is via BACS.

NATD Contemporary Syllabus
NATD is delighted that their Contemporary Syllabus has been officially recognised by Ofqual.

This is currently the only recognised Contemporary syllabus to be eligible for UCAS points.

The syllabus continues to be very popular with students and teachers with the courses very well supported. We are delighted with the latest recognition and the status that it gives the genre.

Our Teachers' Courses for the Grades and Vocational work are open to anyone holding an Associate qualification (or equivalent) in Ballet or Modern Dance, a Licentiate in Freestyle or who hold a degree in Performing Arts/P.E. The next courses will be held later this term-please contact head office to join the waiting list.

AdultFit Syllabus

NATD is delighted to launch the new "AdultFit" syllabus in Ballet and Tap for adults aged 16 years and over which is available now. The syllabus encourages a positive approach to exercise for adults and everyone is rewarded for taking part.

The syllabus arrangements have deliberately been left to the teacher, in order to allow maximum flexibility depending on the candidates' ability and experience. All candidates will receive a diploma.

Thanks to the Senior Examiners and committees involved for their support in the development of this work. It would be excellent to have a strong take up of this syllabus and hopefully teachers and students will be inspired by the new work.
