At the NATD, we know that private dance schools and independent teachers are the heartbeat of the UK’s cultural landscape. Yet, despite the vital role you play in training and community engagement, our sector is often under-represented in national data.
We are pleased to support a new National Survey of Private Dance Schools, commissioned by Arts Council England and delivered by the University of Bedfordshire. This is a unique opportunity for our members to ensure their contribution is visible to policymakers and planners.
Why Should NATD Members Take Part?
This research seeks to build a clear, evidence-based understanding of the scale and diversity of dance provision across England. By participating, you help the sector describe itself in its own terms.
- Be Visible: If our schools aren’t in the data, they risk being invisible in future decision-making.
- Represent Your Style: The survey is open to all dance forms, organisational models, and locations.
- Inclusive: Whether you run a large studio, lead a small community group, or work as a freelance sole trader, your perspective is essential.
The Facts
We understand that your time is precious and your privacy is paramount. Here is what you need to know:
- Time: The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
- Accessibility: You can complete it on a computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
- Confidentiality: Responses are anonymous and used for research purposes only.
- Funding: This survey is not connected to funding decisions for individual organisations.
How to Participate
The survey is live now and will remain open through March. We encourage all NATD members teaching in England to share their voices and help reflect the full breadth of our profession.
